Donation of Microcontroller boards with ATMEGA16, 2 Relays, beeper, RS232

The Hackery gave us a box of about 100 microcontroller boards from some kind of commercial product. These are in a box under the electronics benches and are up for grabs for any project. I don’t have a schematic, but it’s a 2-layer board so it’s probably pretty easy to trace.

Here are some of the features:
-ATMEGA16-16AC with an 8.000MHz crystal
-12VDC 2.1x5.5mm barrel jack power input
-2 Relays: 3A 125VAC/39VDC
-ISP header
-footprints for RS232 (max232?) transceiver IC and DB9 connector
-piezo beeper
-2 bicolour LEDs

I would like to see a workshop come of this. Right now these aren’t that useful but with a little bit of effort these could basically be Arduinos.

To do:

  • Trace out and document the pin headers, relay pins, buzzer, and any other peripherals of interest
  • Determine if there is already an Arduino bootloader (probably not). If not, then set up to program it onto all of them.
  • Come up with a simple project that makes use of this board
  • Run workshop
  • Profit

I grabbed one tonight and plan to do the first couple steps. Would anybody like to help turn this into a workshop?

I should probably help out a little bit since I brought these in. Perhaps a good first step would be to create a KiCAD project for this board in the vhs-pcbs repo on Github? https://github.com/vhs/vhs-pcbs
