Canadian open data experience (CODE) - February 20th - 22nd, 2015

I have been going to the open data hackatons for a while now. They are a lot of fun and you get to play with an amazing data set that can change the way you interact with your city or country.

What is CODE?
The Canadian Open Data Experience (CODE) is an intense 48-hour coding sprint where innovators from coast to coast compete to build the best app utilizing federal government data from Canada’s Open Government Portal.

Do I own my IP?
YES. You and your team own your IP and can do whatever you want with it.

Can I use non-government data sets?
Yes. If you feel additional data sets will improve the quality of your app, you can use additional data sets. Please keep in mind the focus of the app should remain on federal data sets.

Unlike other hackathons this one is very open to you using what you make to build a business that is not dependent on the federal database.

Sounds cool. Do you have something in mind already?

Sounds very fun! I’m pretty psyched, just don’t know if I have the tech chops for this, although I have done a bit of data mining for fun, I’ve never done any app design. What minimum should I know? Either way - I’m sure I’d have a blast and learn lots.
