update 1 after testing and toying with the first prototype. This is mainly for my peace of mind mostly.
noted problems:
- Rotor movement; to much friction/drag of the rotor around axis.
- Alternative model using a regular bearing as rotor showed better movement.
- Axis material; between using a plastic rod and metal screw as rotor axis, the metal one seemed to require more rim speed/ closer spacing than plastic axis.
- Wheel material; aluminum rims def. work for eddy currents, for steel rims it seems not so, but magnets/rotor got sucked straight onto the rim.
to test next:
- build stator to scale for rotor bearing
- test different axis materials for the rotor
- determine how much power is generated
- finish a rig for proper wheel mounting
