Sorry if you got multiple copies of this post. I kept getting bounce-back
messages.

Hey folks,

Just got the following email.

This guy is local and offers a 1 year warranty locally. I have bought a few
handsets and accessories from him . Anytime there was any issue he was
quick to respond.

And I believe he offers free shipping in the Lower Mainland.

I ordered one also and think it’s time to get Ham ticket finally. Anyone
know of an upcoming course either through VHS or otherwise? During a recent
house cleaning, I rediscovered my Restricted Radio Operators license from my
Coast Guard days and thought it’s time to get current

Vector runs courses and it looks like they have one starting in March:

Sadly VECTOR March course is full and next intake is not until September :frowning:

I guess I have the option for self study too.

If you’re willing to travel, the Surrey club is also running a course in March. Not sure if there are slots left.

I trained with (and didn’t finish) the Surrey club back probably around 1991
or so. Too far away with my current schedule, trying to find something in
Vancouver or very close by.

I emailed the Vector folks to see if they have a waiting list for the March
intake.

Happy days, someone dropped out of the VECTOR Program this weekend and I got in.

Basic with Honours completed today, my callsign is VA7MCZ

On to the next thing, anyone studying for the Advanced Exam this fall? I
believe they said the Delta club was holding the course this time around and
possibly North Van too.

Now I can turn on my UV-82 and start saving for the Yaesu FT1D or it’s
successor. Main reason I want it is for waterproofness for use in trail
running and it has most of the technical features for when I join VECTOR
without the crazy price of their recommend Kenwood model.

Looking at the calendar I don’t see any regular ARC meetings anymore. Is that dead?

ARC was driven by @signguy and @toptekkie, so it’s lapsed with their availability

There is a VHS station license that @toptekkie passed on to someone else at VHS but I do not know who that is

As you can see there are still a few Hams kicking around that can probably answer your questions

I believe @lukecyca had an idea to hook up SDR to the antenna on the roof, but that is still in the planning stages

Now that I’m back in town and I also have a radio I would like to get involved (but I’ve never done any Ham before). I was going to call into the VECTOR net this wednesday just to try it out.

VECTOR Net on Wed… Me too

Also planning to take their radio procedures course that starts next month I
think.

There’s a daily net on VE7RPT 146.940 MHz (-600 kHz) (PL 136.5Hz*) at 9:00 AM local time that I check into. Mostly retired folk, but a few of us young blood around.
