From here, they note that carbon fiber filament is abrasive, and will accelerate nozzle wear of brass nozzles much faster than regular filaments. They recommend using it with stainless steel or hardened copper alloy nozzles. I don’t know what the machines at VHS have.
They’ve opened registration up again until Tuesday (the event is on Saturday April 25th), and I also asked what the sample packs contain:
The 275g sample packs are all of unprinted filament rolls including: the carbon fibre XT-CF20, a few XT’s (brightly colored), bambooFill & copperFill.
I have no immediate need for these special filaments, but I might consider attending anyway and donating them to the space if others express the need for them and think it’s a worthwhile expenditure.
Hey sorry I wasn’t able to reply earlier. Glad you got in. The Ditto Pro is 1.75mil. We don’t have a 3mm PLA machine atm. The nozzle on the Ditto is brass. I know wood is fine with the Ditto.
I’ll be there at the meetup and lecture so I’ll have a better idea with the carbon and the copper.
I’ll see how big the package/bag is. Schlepping it to Doolins then BC
Place might not be a huge deal, but if it is, I will look you up. Are you
there the whole time Shane?
Best be checking with the committee on these. These are non standard
Filaments and some Wood/Metalfill can be problematic. Also I believe the
XT Temps are not the same as standard PLA
I wouldn’t be messing with these on the space’s printers!
I did write inside the box that one shouldn’t use the carbon and copper fill without first getting permission from whoever owns the printer, as they are abrasive to brass nozzles (which both the i3 and the Tinkerine use). I also left the brochure with it, so they can refer to recommended temperatures in there. Hopefully that’s enough precaution.
