Hi - you may have noticed that the 3 week bin area is overflowing. I will be organizing it and making a hackery run this week with the help of @packetbob and @Majicj (thanks peeps).
If you haven’t checked these bins they are an awesome source of parts and odd bits and pieces of things. They are located under the scaffolding shelving in the blue boxes to the right of the electrical components area.
There are also a large assortment of high quality audio cables in that area. Feel free to take these, otherwise they will be going to recycling this week.
I tried to do a little more consolidating and vetting of the stuff by the 3-week bins last night. Most of it is very obvious junk that’s had more than enough time to be picked over. But there’s such a sprawling pile of stuff that it’s not really clear what’s part of the bins and what’s not anymore.
There are a handful of items around the edges that are worth confirming one last time before they go:
Outdoor panel Wi-fi antenna (with Metrobridge label). I believe this was from @toma’s project initially.
Some nice bundles of yellow ethernet patch cables (in the box with the antenna)
Still some very nice composite A/V distribution amplifiers
An RF modulator: composite A/V input, coax output - start your own TV station circa 1990!
Still lots of nice RCA cables for A/V (or audio or whatever you want)
2 PC laptops, plus one mac laptop
I’m personally happy to see all of this stuff gone. Just want to post here in case your project has accidentally been consumed by this mountain of crap.
All of the audio equipment was part of the 3-week bin, but kept out and nearby because it overwhelmed the bins entirely. I’m 90% sure the laptops are meant for the 3-week bin, as they’ve all been in that area for nearly a week.
I’ll be doing a bin sort on open night (tomorrow), thanks a bunch @lukecyca for consoidating/vetting. Sounds like you’ve done a lot of clean up. I’ll also check tomorrow AM with the hackery about what they will and won’t take. That way we can weed out the true junk. I plan on taking this stuff up there or arranging a pick up for later in the week. Thanks to @TyIsI who has offered to work at the space for pickup logistics. I can also be down there.
If I can rope in @shane or @packetbob tomorrow night for further bin eyeballing I will
I will try to make it down tomorrow night … If the Hackery can pick up this week then that’s great but if not then we can do the haul on Sat morning (since they close at 6:00 PM I can’t do it during the week)
Thanks @hectorh - I’m good! It turns out the hackery will come to us. I’ve booked a pick-up for Wed the 18th, during the day. I’ll work at the VHS and let them in. The recycling person will be getting back to me about whether they’ll take audio cables.
Here’s a list of what the hackery does and does not accept.
I tidied up the 3 week bins this week. I have removed plastic and cardboard and other stuff that the hackery will not accept. I recycled what I could.
I scored a free perfectly good 5v power supply - so thanks to whoever recycled that. Feel free to go through what remains if you are looking for bits and pieces. Some things you might find include:
handy 4 pin connectors (attached to power supplies)
cat 5 cables
audio cables - very high quality
small power supplies (e.g. 300 watts)
new clean and unused ear buds
CPU tower - there are 2 there currently, I think they are mid-sized ATX but not positive.
other bits and pieces
It’s great to reuse what we can before this stuff goes to recycling. If you mine the 3 week bins please leave them in neat and tidy condition. Also if you haul stuff out of the bins to keep - you must take it home.
As of Wed, May 18th, everything remaining will go to The Hackery for electronics recycling.
